Salsa, swing, and ballroom

The Dance Shack/Dances

A bit about our dances!

Salsa

Extremely popular in Jacksonville, the Salsa has many nightclubs that have a Salsa Night.

Swing

Swing dancing is a term that we use to refer to the dances you can do to music like pop, rock, and most of the Top 40 songs you hear on the radio today.

There are three speeds of swing that we teach: Single, Double, and Triple-time swing. Knowing these will let you dance to any speed of swing song that comes on, whether it's a slow blues tune or punk rock.

Our swing classes on the weekend focus specifically on this type of dance.

Dances taught on "Swing Night" are East Coast Swing, Hustle, and West Coast Swing.

You'll be able to dance swing and it's related dances at many bars and nightclubs around town, as well as at our Swing Party and Friday Night Dance Party.

Ballroom

Ballroom is a catch-all term for any dance that you can do with a partner in your arms. So you'll see plenty of Latin and Swing dances taught in our ballroom classes.

Tango, Waltz, and Samba are danced on the many Ballroom nights around town. Other ballroom dances can be done anywhere, like Foxtrot (GREAT for slow dancing in a crowded nightclub,) Cha-Cha (oddly not danced much locally on Latin Nights in clubs, but always danced in country-western and oldies bars,) and Samba (goes great with reggaeton music on Latin Nights.)
